Ensuring Battery Peformance
With Pulse Technology
Its ironic that todays vehicles and equipment are more and more technologically advanced, yet they still rely on batteries that are basically the same design as the one invented almost 100 years ago. Many experts predict lead-acid batteries will be the primary source of battery power well into the next century. The problem is, most batteries can barely handle the overwhelming demands of today, let alone those of the future.
Its interesting to note that theres actually enough reactive material in lead-acid batteries to keep them operating reliably for eight to ten years - or more (see Figure A). But, they dont. The average life of a battery, depending on usage, is only six to 48 months. But, according to a recent study, only 30% of all batteries actually reach the 48-month point.
Why is that? The reason is a series of problems caused by sulfation buildup. And the solution is a line of patented battery maintenance systems from PulseTech using a revolutionary pulse technology.
Sulfation buildup occurs as lead sulfates form on the battery plates during the normal charge/discharge cycles. During this process, some of the sulfates enlarge to the point where they won't accept energy so they stay on the plate (see Figure B). Over time these sulfates can build up until efficiency is reduced and the battery dies.
This buildup is the main reason for over 80% of all battery problems and failure. It is a natural by-product of battery operation and sooner or later it will kill your battery. This is especially true for infrequently-used and stored vehicles, but it is also a major problem for frequently-used vehicles.
Contrary to common belief if a vehicle runs all the time it doesn't mean the batteries are maintained in good condition. According to a leading service manual in the battery industry it is possible for a vehicle to develop an undercharged battery if it is constantly driven at slow speeds, and idled for long periods, as in very heavy traffic and combined with high electrical load conditions".
Examples of vehicles that suffer from persistent undercharging include express delivery vehicles, buses, cars and virtually any type of vehicle driven in congested traffic. Since these vehicles move at slower speeds or idle, the alternator is not allowed to charge at an optimum rate. The result is a battery that is not fully charged so it will sulfate. Ultimately, it too will die.
While sulfation buildup is a problem all over the world, it actually becomes worse in areas of intense heat or cold. For example, when the weather gets hotter, the buildup rate of sulfation will actually double for every 10° increase in temperature.
When its cold outside, vehicle fluids will thicken. With thick fluids, it takes more energy to start a vehicle so the battery has to supplement this power. This leads to faster discharge so the battery will sulfate quicker than normal. Sulfated plates are also a major reason most cars will not start on cold days.
In the past, nothing could be done to completely eliminate sulfation buildup. That is, until now. Because PulseTech offers products that will actually prevent the effects of sulfation buildup for the first time ever.
These products - Solargizer and PowerPulse - are not battery chargers. They are proven, electronic devices designed to ensure peak battery performance.
These systems reduce battery-related downtime dramatically, extend battery service life, increase efficiency, and provide greater charge acceptance so batteries recharge faster and with better quality. Solargizer even prevents the normal loss of battery power on stored vehicles and equipment no matter how long they sit unused.
These products connect directly to the battery terminals. Then, using a patented breakthrough called pulse technology, they emit a pulsating dc current into the battery. These pulses remove the sulfate deposits from the plates (see Figure C) and return them to the battery acid as active electrolyte. When installed permanently, they will also keep them from building up again (see Figure D).
With the plates clean, your batteries will operate at peak efficiency. This is especially ideal for vehicles using power-hungry electronic systems and components such as security systems and stereos.
Because they keep batteries in peak condition, Solargizer and PowerPulse help reduce battery-related downtime, maintenance and costs. Plus they even help protect the environment. Since batteries last longer, there will be less contamination from lead and sulfuric acid dumped from prematurely discarded batteries.
What makes our pulse technology so unique - and so effective - is our distinct pulse waveform that defines it. This waveform has a strictly controlled rise time, pulse width, frequency, and amplitude of current and voltage pulse. No other battery maintenance system in the world has this specific patented waveform which means no other system can provide the same exceptional benefits as PulseTech products.
